Jumbo reported to have installed a wind-assisted propulsion to one of their heavy-lift vessels.
This move is the company’s latest effort to boost fuel efficiency and reduce carbon.
Jumbo reports the successful installation of two mechanical sails to the Jumbo Jubilee heavy-lift vessel.
According to the company, the wind-assisted ship propulsion solution is the latest in a series of technologies installed to the vessel in a bid to boost fuel efficiency and cut carbon.
Jumbo says the relatively small footprint of the sails makes them an ideal solution for installation on a heavy-lift vessel, where space is required for large project cargoes.
Additionally, the sails are flexibly mounted on a customized frame engineered in-house by Jumbo structural engineers. With this, the sails can be moved or even transferred to another vessel should additional space be required for a specific cargo.
